My Friends,
I had a very interesting conversation this week a
guy who may sound *very* familiar to many of you.
He was telling me that he wanted to invest in real estate, but that he
had never succeeded at anything before and he was afraid he would fail
again.
As we continued to talk, he said that the "real" reason he was afraid
was because his wife didn't think he could succeed.
She told him that he has gone off on harebrained schemes before and
that he always failed and it always ended up costing them money...
money that they couldn't afford.
She doesn't trust him to make effective decisions about new "money
making" ideas because he can't seem to follow through with anything
he's ever done.
As a matter of fact, she doesn't even blame the stupid "get rich
quick" schemes... she blames *him* for being so gullible.
Her lack of confidence is well founded. She knows he's a smart guy,
but he has never completed anything that he started.
Frankly, I don't blame her... if the guy won't follow through, if he
picks stupid ideas, if he gets discouraged easily and gives up
quickly, he is going to keep failing.
BUT... they both need to remember one thing....

It's not over till your dead... until then,
anything can happen... and frequently does.
Your belief system defines who you are. You create who
you are by what you chose to believe about yourself.
*I* say... If you don't like who you are, become someone else...
someone you do like.
This is the greatest lesson that I learned from a friend of mine (who
introduced me to my wife, by the way) who is an acting teacher.
"Method" actors define their role this way...
They act... pretend that they feel. They physically
perform the motions of their character. They mimic movement, facial
expression, body movement. They think the characters' thoughts,
explore their motivations. Do you know what happens when they do this?
They *become* the character. They think, feel, look and act
like the character they have created... simply by doing it.
You can become anyone you want to be!
*** STAY ON TRACK! ***
The hardest part of all of this is learning how to focus and stay on
track with what you are trying to accomplish.
It is difficult to get your confidence up day after day as you
struggle to accomplish your first minor successes.
For the fellow that I was talking to, he sure isn't going to get
support from his wife or his family and friends.
For most of us... our family and friends can't help us rise above what
we have always been. They can't lift us out of a hole that they are
stuck in too.
Remember, a prophet is never recognized in his/her own land. They knew
you when you were a kid... they saw you make mistakes, they saw you
wet your pants, they saw you fail. This doesn't mean that they don't
love you... that they don't want what is best for you, but the problem
is... they are in no position to see what really *is* good for you.
Only *you* can see that. Only you can make those decisions... but it
sure would be nice to have someone in your corner. Someone who knows
that you can do it... someone who has faith in the power of
encouragement and positive actions. Someone who will help you with
your first successes.
Success breeds success. It builds on itself... creates momentum....
snowballs into something you never thought you possessed
This "shove toward your first success" is the true value of having a
mentor. This is the value of having a coach.
It doesn't matter if it's me. There are many knowledgeable, successful
people in the world. You need to find *your* mentor... your coach.
Even if it's not me.

you in the butt to get you going and encourage you as you move along.
You need to have someone to keep you focused on the things that work
so you don't get mired in doing all the things that waste your time,
even though they seem so important at the moment.
